Man Sucked Into MRI Dies

MRI machines produce extremely high magnetic fields, so bringing anything metallic into the room is deadly.  Unfortunately, an Indian man died because he was told it was okay to bring an oxygen tank into the room and that the machine was off.  Warnings were not heeded.  (Read on)

Neuromorphic Computing

MIT engineers have designed a chip that mimics the synapses in the human brain.  Using such mediums as silicon germanium to create one-dimensional channels thorugh which ions can flow, they can control the pathways signals take, much like the human brain. (Read on)

Pee on IKEA's Ad - Get a Discount

Here's a story that flows with oddity.  IKEA has released an ad in the Swedish magazine Amelia which encourages women to urinate on the ad. If they're pregnant, the ad reveals a discount on baby products.  I wonder if these pages would yellow over time? (Read on)

According to Reuters, "Big names in hospitality, from Disney to Hilton and Hyatt, have a little-known sideline: They rent space to physicians who train on cadavers and body parts. There is scant regulation, and some public-health specialists warn of biosafety risks." (Read on)

Quasi-Particle Polaritons and Negative Mass

Physicists have created particles that tend toward negative mass.  A quote from the article linked here stated, "They do this by manipulating captured photons and combine them with a kind of quasi-particle called an exciton to make something half-light/half-matter that some scientists affectionately refer to as 'magic dust'." Assassin Spiders

There's a species of spider found in a few regions of the world that hunt and kill other spiders.  However, they do not kill each other.  In fact, when placed in a petri dish, they will stay equal distance from each other, three spiders forming a triangle and four creating a square.  (Read on)

Three Doctors Pronounce Him Dead - He Wakes Up Just Before the Autopsy

A Spanish prisoner was about to be opened up for an autopsy after having been declared dead by three doctors.  Various hypotheses as to why are being considered. (Read on)

I have been in the cleaning field for 41 years and have been a school custodian for 25 years, the last 18 of which I have worked as a Head Custodian.  I am a Certified Building Operator (CBO) and have earned Building Operator Certification (BOC) levels I & II. I have been writing our custodial/maintenance newsletter for 22 years and blogging for 16. I am responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the high school in our district which is one of the largest in Washington State.  The job brings different challenges each day, but much can be learned from each challenge.  Every day has unique situations that must be assessed and solved.
